Women’s “Firsts” in Air Force Aviation

It isn’t that hard to claim a “first” in military aviation if you are a woman — we still are a minority. Here are a few that occurred thirty to twenty years ago. These photographs are courtesy of the Woman Military Aviators (WMA) and especially WASP Bee Haydu, who collected them in a scrapbook and shares them and other fascinating photos of our history with the WMA.

Please comment with photos of more recent “firsts,” such as Carey Lohrenz, Nicole Malachowski, and many, many others.

  1. Cool!!! Go girls!

  2. That was really neat! Especially the all-women crews!

  3. Hi Anne, I still have the newspapers from that day, posted one of the pics on FB back in July, let me know if you want a copy.
